Sprigging of the new greens to Ultradwarf Bermudagrass has been completed and continued maintenance on the golf course will be ongoing during the growing phase. Bermudagrass is a thin bladed, warm season turfgrass adapted to the warmer regions of the southeast United States that is heat and drought resistant, flourishing in full sunlight. Bermuda grass is relatively easy to care for, especially if you give the turf attention a few times per year. By mowing, aerating, watering, and fertilizing on schedule, the golf course will have more, beautiful putting surfaces.

During all renovations, the clubhouse and driving range will remain OPEN during operating hours.

MONDAY, June 28, 2021 – The Tradition Golf Club has been CLOSED since Wednesday, June 16, 2021 for planned renovations to the golf course. We anticipate completion of all projects and re-opening of the golf course in late Summer 2021.

Sprigging of the new greens begins the week of June 28, 2021. Sprigging involves planting vegetative pieces into the soil. These vegetative pieces will root and grow together to establish a completed surface. Bermudagrass Sprigs should be planted before July in the early growing season. Depending on soil moisture, temperature and management, establishment generally takes 45 to 90 days. Irrigation should be applied to sprigs immediately after planting. Mowing should begin as soon as the sprigs stabilize the soil surface.

Many courses choose MiniVerde for its fast putting surface as it creates a smooth, high-quality surface for excellent ball roll. Ultradwarf Bermudagrass is a high shoot density Bermudagrass for production of high quality golf greens. MiniVerde Bermudagrass tolerates continuous close mowing, has a dark green color and excellent low temperature color retention. Putting surface development will depend on rate of planting and fertilization during the first weeks after planting.

When resurfacing existing greens, a well-prepared planting bed should be achieved. Complete kill of existing grass surfaces should be accomplished by fumigation or by repeat applications of non-selective herbicides. Soil fumigants, such as methyl bromide, play a pivotal role in the renovation process (see below). The United States Golf Association (USGA) recommends soil sterilization during the renovation and building process in order to reduce competition from weed seed, soil borne insects, nematodes, as well as soil borne diseases. We have relied on the fumigant methyl bromide as an affordable and effective soil sterilant.

Topdressing, using material consistent in physical characteristics to the existing root-zone, should be applied to newly planted greens to help produce a smooth putting surface. Light, weekly topdressing applications will begin 2 to 3 weeks after planting depending on rate of surface development.

During all renovations, the clubhouse and driving range will remain OPEN during operating hours.

WEDNESDAY, June 16, 2021 – The Tradition Golf Club will be CLOSED on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 for planned renovations to the golf course. We anticipate completion of all projects and re-opening of the golf course in late Summer 2021.

For the past 18 months, Romspen Club Holdings (Owner), along with Mecklenburg County, have been studying potential improvements for The Tradition Golf Club. While the course has been well maintained over the past several years, the overall age of the facility is beginning to require a multitude of capital investment to maintain the high standard interest from both the Owner and the County.

We are excited to announce that these plans have been finalized and several improvement projects to begin in June! These significant projects will make a strong statement that The Tradition Golf Club is poised for long-term success. The financial commitment to complete the construction project and all other associated costs is in excess of $500,000. The goal of this project is to provide an exceptional golf and club experience for the Charlotte golf community for years to come.

Major projects for the golf course include conversion of all greens to MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass, drainage improvements, cart path repair, tree work, bridge repair and improvement of the turf quality throughout the golf course. Clubhouse renovations include new painting, new fixtures, new carpet and landscape improvements. During all renovations, the clubhouse and driving range will remain OPEN during operating hours.
